Plan a visit to the beautiful Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre situated to the westerly aspect of the village and be prepared to stay awhile, with stunning panoramic views across the reservoir and surrounding villages mesmerizing you. There is always a regular programme of organized events for adults and families.
To the southerly aspect of the village is Mersea Island where sailing, water sports facilities and country walking are on offer, and again in East Mersea there is Cudmore Grove Country Park featuring a sandy beach, impressive walks and views, historic sites and abundant wildlife.
